You'll leave Sydney by private air-conditioned coach, with your experienced and knowledgeable driver/guide providing detailed background to the area, its History and of course the exceptional wines of the Hunter Valley region. An hour after departure, morning tea/coffee with fresh muffins is shared with Australian native Animals at a premier wildlife park.
Departing the freeway, we travel through National Parks, where enroute we will view several sections of the original 1820 convict built Old Great Northern Road. We travel through the historic Wollombi village, established in the early 19th century and a wonderful example of the small colonial rural townships of this era. We pause to taste Dr. Jurds Jungle Juice at the rustic Wollombi Tavern.
From Wollombi, we travel into the Hunter Valley itself. The Hunter Valley is Australia's oldest winemaking region. It boasts the country's oldest winery and over eighty wineries and cellar doors with some of the latest winemaking and tasting facilities We will arrive at Brokenwood winery around 11.30 for an in-depth wine tasting followed by lunch at the Hunter Resort. Lunch is a continuation of the wine tasting and you are given tastings of 4 wines chosen to cross-taste the different wines with different types of food.
On completion of lunch, we visit the Hermitage Cellars where you have the opportunity to sample wines from up to 8 different local wineries - featuring 5 of the most significant boutique wineries in the region. From here, we head off to Oakvale Winery. Established in 1893 at the foothills of the Brokenback Range, Oakvale is proudly one of Australia's oldest working wineries. Producing some of the Hunters most famous estate grown wines. The cellar door also has a fabulous range of Olive Oils and gourmet gifts. Here we will enjoy a tasting of selected wines accompanied by tastings of Hunter Valley Cheeses.
